The croaky singing of saurids is a popular learning aid for chemistry students. Thanks to it, the periodic table of elements can be sung up to three times faster than by standard recitation.

Race: Saurid

Homeworld: Annor

Era: around 3750 Tu - present

Saurids came to Coraab along with Annors, who were using them as scouts while exploring new chaalk springs. The sensoric organ hidden in saurid's cranial cavity act as a high-performance detector of alkaline metals, which is a handy ability even on a treasure hunt in igneous Dump beds. With their shrieks, saurids can identify not only where to drill, but also what substances might be hidden in the given area. Although they are not overly intelligent, their strange singing can accurately describe the majority of the periodic table. Saurids still act as welcomed assistants to eager treasure hunters as their unique organs effectively replace even the most precise artificial detectors.

Saurids can sprint at a rapid pace in all sorts of difficult terrain and can even nimbly climb vertical walls; a tremendous boon for those looking for valuables in poorly accessible areas. The saurid champion Po'o'nk'ul'ok managed to win seven Xot khopts in ten running and climbing disciplines at the 296th Coraabiad, a record that still stands unbeaten today.

Some said saurids came from genetically cultivated ruuks. However, later scientific analysis disproved all such rumors. In truth, the structure of their organisms puts them somewhere between birdpelvic parafowls and the now extinct Annorian lizardeons. Their main weakness is their low life expectancy - male saurids typically live for 5-8 Tu.
