Each character in Coraabia belongs to a faction, which is symbolized by the colored border of the character card. Being a part of faction opens gameplay interaction with other characters, tricks, or connections. There are 5 factions for characters, in order: Guardian, Xenno, Mercenary, Unliving, and Outlaw.
The ratio between characters' factions in a deck also determines player's faction, which is symbolized by the colored border of the player card. Player's faction allegiance determines what Career trees the player can play. Unlike characters, players may not belong to any faction. When two factions' numbers are tied in a deck, the player does not belong to any faction.
